About
About BMIChart.app
An honest BMI calculator and charts, built to show the official numbers clearly and to say what BMI cannot tell you.
Who is behind the site
BMIChart.app is operated by Takreparation Skåne AB (org. no. 556988-5931), Sparvgränd 6, 262 41 Ängelholm, Sweden. The person responsible is Flemming Harboe Olsen. The company also runs other free informational websites.
We are not doctors, and the site does not give medical advice. Instead, every number on the site comes from published public health guidance, and each page lists its sources so you can check them.
Sources we use
- CDC (US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention): adult BMI categories, child and teen categories and growth charts.
- NIH (US National Institutes of Health): NHLBI BMI information, NIDDK guidance for older adults, National Institute on Aging and research indexed in PubMed.
- WHO (World Health Organization): obesity and overweight fact sheet and the 2004 expert consultation on BMI in Asian populations.
- NHS and NICE (UK): NHS BMI guidance, the NHS waist-to-height tool and NICE guideline NG246.
How we work
- Categories and cut-offs are copied from the sources above, not invented. Where research is less settled, such as BMI in older adults, we say so and link the studies.
- BMI is rounded to one decimal before a category is chosen, as the CDC does. Tables and the calculator use the same code and are tested against CDC examples.
- We do not guess percentiles for children, sell supplements or diet pills, or make weight-loss promises.
- All calculations run in your browser. See privacy.

BMI is a screening estimate, not a diagnosis and not medical advice. It does not measure body fat directly. For health questions, talk to a doctor or nurse.
